************************************* * * * DB/C Newsletter * * August 1998 * * * ************************************* News and Comments In this month's newsletter, I had hoped to discuss some new projects that we are working on in the DB/C group, but we haven't progressed far enough to talk about details publicly. DB/C FS 2.0 and DB/C JX 1.0 have been selling well. Several customers have run into showstopper-type problems with DB/C FS 2.0. We're working through each of the problems as quickly as we can. Thanks for your patience. Some of the issues are addressed in the DB/C FS 2.0.1 release which will be made available in early September. Also, several problems were resolved with the DB/C JX 1.0.1 release which was made available in August. We've scheduled the next DB/C Fundamentals class for early October. For the first time, we're going to skip sending out a paper mailing announcing the class. The only publicity about the class will be Internet based. Sun (actually its Javasoft subsidiary) announced that the release of Java 1.2 would be postponed until November. More importantly, Sun announced that its HotSpot Java performance enhancement feature wouldn't be available until next year. These delays are taking some of the luster off of Java, but it hasn't changed our opinion about the long-term importance and success of Java. don.wills@swc.com ***************************************************************************** DB/C Class Schedule Class: DB/C DX and JX Language Fundamentals Date: October 5, 6 and 7 1998 Location: Oak Brook, Illinois For information, contact Judi Tamkevic at: voice 630.572.0240 email dbc@swc.com ***************************************************************************** Subscribing to the DB/C Newsletter If you don't already have the DB/C Newsletter delivered to your email address and would like to have it emailed to you when it is produced, just send an email message to 'request@swc.com' and put the line 'subscribe dbcnews' in the body of the email message (omit the ' characters).
