It's now time to take advantage of the two new members of the DB/C family of software - DB/C JX and DB/C FS. This month's article gives an overview of these products. Be sure to check out the DB/C page at www.swc.com for more detailed information. don.wills@swc.com DB/C JX and DB/C FS The production versions of DB/C JX and DB/C FS will begin shipping to customers in July. DB/C JX Release 1.0 will begin shipping to customers on July 6th. DB/C FS Release 2.0 will begin shipping to customers on July 13th. As we've noted earlier in these pages, DB/C JX is the Java version of the DB/C language and DB/C FS is a two-tier (client/server) file and SQL server that provides access to DB/C-type files (TXT, ISI and AIM). Information about DB/C JX and DB/C FS is available now at www.swc.com. Just click on the DB/C button to find out technical details, prices, support policies and more. There are several important changes associated with the release of these new software products. The most important change is that the software and documentation will be distributed via the Internet. Physical distribution is available, but an extra charge is added to the price. One year of email support and software upgrades is included with the purchase price of DB/C JX and DB/C FS. Subscriptions for continued support and software upgrades may be purchased after the initial year. Software upgrades include both major and minor revisions to DB/C JX and DB/C FS. An important change is that email support is the only support included with the purchase price of DB/C JX and DB/C FS. There is an extra charge for telephone support. See the Premium Support Options page in the DB/C area of www.swc.com for the cost of telephone support. Another change is that the deployment of single user systems created with DB/C JX is royalty-free. Deployment of multi-user systems created with DB/C JX is less expensive than DB/C 9 for the same number of users. Many of the same changes in support and pricing will apply to DB/C DX Release 10.0 (the next of release of traditional DB/C) when it is released later this year. ***************************************************************************** DB/C Class Schedule Class: DB/C DX and JX Language Fundamentals Date: September 1998 (tentative) Location: Oak Brook, Illinois Class: DB/C DX and JX Advanced Features Date: September 1998 (tentative) Location: Oak Brook, Illinois For information, contact Judi Tamkevic at: voice 630.572.0240 email dbc@swc.com ***************************************************************************** Subscribing to the DB/C Newsletter If you don't already have the DB/C Newsletter delivered to your email address and would like to have it emailed to you when it is produced, just send an email message to 'request@swc.com' and put the line 'subscribe dbcnews' in the body of the email message (omit the ' characters).
