************************************* * * * DB/C Newsletter * * September 2004 * * * ************************************* News and Comments The dbctalk email list has been a success primarily because of the high quality and limited quantity of messages posted. We've discouraged any commercial use of dbctalk to keep it as useful as possible for asking technical questions about systems built with DB/C software products. However, there has long been a need for communication with others in the DB/C community for people looking for jobs, for companies with job openings, and, in general, for advertising. This month's article is about a new email list which can be used for those purposes. don.wills@dbcsoftware.com ****************************************************************************** DB/C Marketplace Email List The dbcmarket email list is a forum for commercial communication that is related to DB/C software. Here are the types of messages we expect to see posted to dbcmarket: . programmers looking for jobs . companies posting available jobs (help wanted) . independent contractors advertising their services . companies looking for independent contractors . commercial software for sale . free or shareware software The dbcmarket email list is managed the same way as dbctalk. To start your subscription, send an email to dbcmarket-subscribe@dbcsoftware.com By default, you will be subscribed in DIGEST mode - you will typically just receive one email per day which contains a digest of all of the last 20 messages or all of the messages sent in the last 24 hours when less than 20 messages are posted in a day. To change to FEED mode, and for more information about the dbcmarket email list, see http://www.dbcsoftware.com/lists.html The dbcmarket email list will not be moderated. However, we will be watching for off-topic postings. Those who post off topic will be warned. Repeated off topic posts may cause us to change dbcmarket to a moderated list. Do not post messages like these: . non-technical jobs or services . jobs for other programming languages (Java, VB, C) . questions or comments about other postings . tangible property for sale (computers, books) In addition to disallowed postings, we request that you post your message once and only once in any calendar month. If you have two separate job openings, you can post them as one or two messages. Archives will be available in the same manner as for dbctalk. That is, you will need to subscribe to the dbcmarket email list to access the archives. This protects email addresses, phone numbers, etc. that are contained in the postings from access by automated web crawlers. In summary, the dbcmarket email list is for advertising DB/C related software and services, wanted and available. With your help, it will be another useful part of the DB/C community. ****************************************************************************** DB/C DX Class Schedule Class: DB/C DX Fundamentals Date: January, 2005 Location: to be determined For information, send email to admin@dbcsoftware.com. ****************************************************************************** Subscribing to the DB/C Newsletter If you don't already have the DB/C Newsletter delivered to your email address and would like to have it emailed to you monthly, just send an email message to 'dbcnews-subscribe@dbcsoftware.com'.
