dbctalk Email List
The dbctalk email list is a forum for people to communicate with others
who have an interest in DB/C DX and DB/C FS software. dbctalk is a community
of individuals with a wide range of interests and competency levels. Most
of the active participants are programmers who use DB/C DX and/or DB/C
FS on a daily basis. Managers and non-programmers are also welcome.
To subscribe to the dbctalk email list, send an email to 'dbctalk-subscribe@dbcsoftware.com'.
You will receive a confirmation email to which you need to reply. You
are then a subscriber to the list. Whenever anyone sends an email to 'dbctalk@dbcsoftware.com',
it will be sent to you and to all other subscribers of the list. Only
subscribers are allowed to send emails to the dbctalk list, so junk email
should not be a problem.
By default, you will be subscribed in FEED mode. If you are subscribed
in FEED mode, each email sent to the dbctalk list will be sent immediately
to
you and to all other FEED mode subscribers.
If you are not interested in receiving each email immediately, you can
instead subscribe to dbctalk in DIGEST mode. When you are a DIGEST mode
subscriber, you will receive one email that contains up to 20 of the most
recent dbctalk messages appended together in the form of a digest. Each
digest will be sent at least once a day so you will never be more than
24
hours behind the discussion. If you plan to be an active contributor to
dbctalk, you should be subscribed in FEED mode, but if you just want to
keep in touch with the discussion, DIGEST mode may be better for you.
To
switch to DIGEST mode, send an email to 'dbctalk-digest@dbcsoftware.com'.
When the dbctalk list processor receives an email, it will insert
"(dbctalk) " at the beginning of the Subject: field before it
is sent out
to FEED mode subscribers. This makes it easy for you to identify messages
that originate from the dbctalk list. The "(dbctalk) " string
can be used
with the filtering feature of your email program so you can segregate
dbctalk
messages into your own mailbox filing system.
The dbctalk email server also provides a way for you to access the
archive of the dbctalk list. You must be a subscriber to dbctalk to access
the archive (this is done to keep automated web crawlers from harvesting
email addresses of dbctalk list subscribers). To access the dbctalk archive,
go to this web page:
http://dbcsoftware.com:8100
then click on the 'Mailing Lists' link, then click on the 'dbctalk' link.
You will be prompted for a User ID and Password. Your User ID is the full
email address with which you are subscribed. Your Password is the 10 digit
Confirmation Number that you used to confirm your subscription. If you
ever need to get your Confirmation Number again, just send an email to
'dbctalk-confirm@dbcsoftware.com' and the server will send you your
Confirmation Number. After entering your User ID and Password, you can
peruse the entire dbctalk list archive.
The volume of messages is typically 10-20 per week. We expect those who
post messages to dbctalk will be polite and courteous. Please do not post
any advertising or other off-topic messages. Those who do not follow these
two simple rules will be barred
from posting.
DB/C Software Company employees will be monitoring the list, but will
not be active participants. If you need a question answered by a DB/C
Software Company person, send your email to either 'support@dbcsoftware.com'
or 'admin@dbcsoftware.com'.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and participate in the discussions on
'dbctalk'. As a way of introducing yourself when you make your first post
to the list, we suggest that you note that it is your first posting, and
include a short paragraph about your experience and how you are using
DB/C software.
